BYOB community reading event

BYOB community reading event

Hiiiiiii! Come read with me! I host a community reading evening once a month in which people gather in a public venue and read together silently. Thanks to our hosts so far: Exporadora Coffee, The Growler, Circle and Square Brewery, The Graduate Hotel, Velvet Ditch Coffee, The Kingswood at The Oliver Hotel, and Booth’s BBQ, all in Oxford; also Lost Dog Coffee in Taylor, MS and T.I.N. and The Magnolia Coffee Co. in Water Valley. One of my ideas is to keep the party moving, so sooner or later there’s a BYOB in everyone’s neighborhood!

The evening goes like this: you Bring Your Own Book, and arrive at 6, and you'll be randomly assigned a table. This means whether you come solo or with a family member or pal from a book club, you'll be sitting with strangers, which is kinda sorta part of the point. We'll give folks some time to get settled/get a beverage if they want one, and then I'll welcome everyone, and then we'll all read silently for 45 minutes. That's it. A room full of strangers, reading. Doesn't that sound gorgeous? After 45 minutes, we'll have a quick 10 minute table chat (each table will be provided a bookish question to discuss). Then we'll head back out into the Mississippi night, maybe feeling a little bit better about ourselves and the world. This community event is FREE--books are for everyone!

Sound interesting? Join us! Add your name below to get a reminder email with the next date and location. Or if you’re interested in hosting, drop me a note at bafennel@olemiss.edu and thanks!
